Community events are not new in this subcontinent; in fact, since the inception of human civilization, social events have been a way to gather and discuss common problems and get to a solution acceptable to all. Even today, it has not lost its relevance. Social events are organized to get together and work towards a common solution to many of the problems of life.
As a well-wisher of society, Gurudikshaam strongly believes in community events that are specifically oriented toward the poor and the needy of society. These events help to gather these people on a common platform and discuss with them the ways to eradicate their problems.
Events on social welfare
Such events are organised in the remotest of parts of the country in order to spread the word of various social welfare initiatives taken by different parties- the governments, NGOs and others. In many cases, these welfare projects do not reach the destitute simply because the latter are unaware of them. Such community events help in getting these people to know about the latest schemes, and also the ways to get the benefits. The offices where they have to go and meet the officials, the details about their own selves that they must carry- these are only some of the things that they are oriented about.
A big problem is to gather these people to the events- it is not possible to inform them over modern ways of communication. Thus, we need a great deal of volunteers who have to go and meet these people physically and pick them out of their shelters. It remains the duty of these volunteers to ensure more and more of the poor reach the venue on the event on the said date and time. They have to be given conveyance as well as food for the day in order to be there!
Events on health and hygiene
These events perhaps carry the maximum weight age for welfare towards the lower rung of the society. These people are mostly not aware of the basic practices of health and hygiene that can save them from getting infected by diseases easily or becoming unhealthy. The events aim at spreading the good habits, how to practice them as well as what they are useful of! These are a few things that the destitute will never know due to lack of education.
Such events also need a lot of logistical support. One has to arrange for the food and conveyance of the experts who come down to help and contribute; one also has to look after gathering the poor people together at one place on time and in as many numbers as possible. All of it is never possible without sufficient volunteers who are willingly into it without asking for anything. It is difficult to get such people in many numbers and that is also a challenge of obstacle in front of us!
Events on Sports
These are perhaps the most popular among all. People have a natural inclination towards sporting events and they get attracted to these things much easily. That is why arranging a sports event is perhaps easier. It can actually get the poor people to whom we are trying to reach out,get out of their homes more spontaneously. Sporting events when mixed with other things like health and hygiene welfare or educational efforts, show far better results. Sports itself catalyzes the number of participants to go up and as a result, it is easier to get more participation in the other related events too happening in parallel.
The hurdles to organise a sports event in the remote areas remain more or less the same. The logistical challenge is a huge one considering the fact that carrying the various infrastructure and personnel required is difficult. The turnout however is more favorable in the case of sporting events.

They have seen much success since the inception in 2011 and are charged up to extend these welfare activities to places outside India, like the rest of South Asia, Africa and South America.
